This three night experience is based on the local island of Hulhumale and provides an insight into the local way of life, history and the fragile environment of the Maldives. Hulhumale, North Male Atoll, is a developing suburban island just a 10-minute taxi ride from Male International Airport.

This artificial island was reclaimed from the sea to offer alternative living space outside of Male and whilst not a 5* resort Hulhumale provides the ideal base as a start or finishing point to Maldives holiday.

There are plenty of local coffee shops and restaurants. A small local shopping area, bank and hospital. The public beach located along the east side of the island is an endless stretch of sand and provides the ideal location to swim, snorkel or just relax, with a variety of watersport operators offering motorized and non-motorized water activities.

The capital Male is just a bus ride or ferry journey away and for those who like to end their day with a beer the only hotel serving alcohol on a local island is a short bus journey close to the airport.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Welcome to Male

Arrive Male International Airport where you will be greeted by your guide who will assist you with your vehicle transfer to your Hulhumale guest house. Upon arrival you will have time to settle in after your flight before taking your first steps on the sands of this tropical urban paradise with a guided tour of the island. For guests arriving before 5.00pm there is an option to join your guide at a beachside cafe for coffee, a very popular daily activity for Maldivians and a chance to gain your first insight into the local side of this island paradise.

Day 2: Explore Hulhumale

This morning accompanied by your guide, explore the capital on foot. Visit the fish market and local markets Presidents Palace, Sultan Park, Friday Mosque and take a few steps off the beaten track. Stop for a drink at a café, frequented by locals. Complete your tour with a bird’s eye view from one of the city’s tallest buildings.

This evening enjoy dinner with a local family at their home allowing you to true access to Maldives local life.

Day 3: Transfer to Villimale Island

This afternoon take the public ferry to Villimale. Here we join NGO Save the Beach and discover the quieter side of city life by exploring the smaller island of Villimale, located south west of Male. Wander the quiet streets, learn the names of local trees, and find out about the conservation work being carried out by Save the Beach. Sample traditional ‘hedikaa’ at a local café on the beach– traditional sweet and savory snacks served with black tea and taken between 3.00 and 5.00pm before returning to Male.

Day 4: Transfer to Male

Following breakfast the day is free for you to do as you please until your transfer to Male International Airport or your onward destination.
